Guardian
for Communities
While it would be great if all homes and businesses possessed a Guardian-2000 Detection Kit, a more practical solution exists. We recommend that every community entity purchase a Guardian 2000 Kit and have two or more people trained in use (training takes less than 30 minutes and is included in purchase of kit). The following should consider having a Guardian 2000 Kit on hand:
Schools - Churches - Community Centers - Businesses - Shopping Centers - Malls - Theaters - Concert Halls - Sports Arenas - Business and Social Clubs (Kiwanis, Rotary, etc.) - Volunteer Fire Departments
These organizations can employ the detection kits in three ways:
- Use in the facility
- Use at homes of people affiliated with the facility
- General community use for area-wide emergencies
Our recommendation for community groups is to purchase the
Guardian-2000 kit, although the Guardian-1000 kit is available if
cost is an issue. The following instruments comprise the
Guardian-2000. All components are optional and we can
configure a kit to meet your needs and budget:
Gamma Radiation Dosimeter: this
device is the heart of the kit for radiation detection.
Turn it on. If it
starts alarming after initialization back away from the apparent
source of radiation until the level goes down.
Call 911 and explain situation to experts, if possible
telling them your readings.
While on, this device tracks the dose you receive.
You can send it to us later and we will report on your
exposure.
Alpha/Beta/Gamma Radiation Survey Meter:
this device can be used in conjunction with the dosimeter to
help you find and identify radioactive objects
Gas Detector: this device can be used to
identify the following gases- oxygen, to make sure there is adequate
oxygen supply in the air; carbon monoxide; hydrogen sulphide and
other explosive gases.
Infrared Thermometer: this
device enables you to read surface temperature from a distance.
Point and shoot at ceiling areas or distant walls, for
example, to determine if they are hotter than normal without the
need of a ladder or entry into a possible dangerous area.
Biological Agent Detection Kit: this kit enables you to perform a single test
on powders of concern.
It is a screening kit only.
It will enable you to determine that a powder is
non-biological. However,
it will NOT enable you to determine that a powder, if biological, is
hazardous. If the powder
is a concern, and is determined to be biological, then responders
should be called to check it out further.
